Hello and Welcome to the Cooper Auto Group!
We’ve been in business and serving the Oklahoma area for over fifty years and in that time we’ve made a lot of great friends and had the wonderful opportunity to grow alongside our neighbors. How did it all begin?
In 1948, Claude Cooper "struck a deal" to purchase a Yukon, Oklahoma Oldsmobile franchise from Turner Funeral Home. It was a thriving sign of the times that new car allotments to the dealership in those post-war years totaled one-and-a-half cars each month. His son, Jackie, worked part time as a salesman while attending college.
In 1953, Jackie left college to manage the dealership and search for a buyer. His father's health left him unable to manage the company, and the need to sell was apparent. Instead of searching the marketplace for a buyer, young Jackie Cooper bought half the dealership himself. He purchased the remaining 50% in 1959 after becoming, at age 21, the youngest dealer in the United States to hold an Oldsmobile Franchise.
Almost 15 years later, Jack introduced Cooperville to Yukon and the rest of Oklahoma, which was the first dealership that he created from the ground up. In addition to all the success with this Oldsmobile based dealership, both Miss America and Evel Knievel found themselves at events held by Jack and his wife at Cooperville.
Jackie took his popularity further by branching into the Oklahoma City area, opening Lincoln-Mercury & Imports in May of 1977.
During that time, he was the exclusive Oklahoma dealer for Lotus, Maserati, and Clenet. It became one of the fastest- growing dealerships in America.
Over time, we’ve opened dealerships in Edmond, Shawnee and Tulsa and as we expand we’ve never forgotten what brought us here; our customers. Thank you for continuing to make us the best and remember to drive the name you know!”
